Primary Functions of the International Advisory Group
The MRTC International Advisory Group (IAG) is established to help guide the strategic thinking and planning of the Migration Research and Training Centre, to assist in ensuring that MRTC is well integrated into a network of relevant institutions and organizations, and to better enable the MRTC to lend support to the related activities of the IAG members and their institutions. The IAG will provide broad and expert international perspective to the MRTC as it strives to achieve its mandated objectives. The AIG is comprised of eight to ten members.
Chatacteristics of IAG Members
- Ability to add perspective that is regional or national in nature, given the geographic areas of focus of the MRTC
- An institutional base with a complementing mandate or mission that the MRTC could contribute to, and which may provide useful models or reference points for best practices in research, training and institutional development
- A strong track record in closely-related areas of migration research and training, or in the development of similar institutions
- Diversity in areas of expertise that complement the various areas of concern of the MRTC
Responsibilities of IAG Members
- Participating in annual or biannual IAG meetings at the MRTC, which are expected to be one day in duration
- Reacting to major strategic planning initiatives that are under consideration by the MRTC Director, as part of a pre-Board approval consultation process on these matters
- Informing MRTC of initiatives of possible interest to the MRTC, and assisting MRTC in entering into relevant networks and activities
- Advising MRTC how the Centre can best assist the IAG Member or their institution/agency in furthering initiatives of shared interest
